An all-party delegation will arrive in Srinagar today on a two-day visit to Kashmir to assess the ground situation in the valley. The 35-member delegation, led by Home Minister P Chidambaram, will elicit views of all sections of society including political parties and separatist groups to help break the impasse. AIR correspondent reports that an all-party delegation of members of parliament is visiting the state after a gap of 20 years. The visit is taking place after the situation was discussed with the representatives of political parties from Jammu and Kashmir and in the all party meeting of National Parties. The cabinet committee on security, Congress core group, BJP top brass and the left parties also held separate meetings to discuss the present unrest in the boarder state. Not withstanding some differences on some policy issues, the message was clear. All parties favour resumption of dialogue after peace is restored. Government has already made it clear that it is open to talk to people from all shades of opinion to bring the militancy ravaged state back to the path of normalcy and address the aspirations of people within the constitutional frame work. Center has already taken the initiative by sending the all party delegation. The ball is now in the court of those who are outside the mainstream politics. They have to seize the opportunity to create a congenial atmosphere for addressing people's concerns in a democratic way. Ahead of the all party delegation's visit, Home minister P Chidambaram said that it is time to act on promises made to the people of the state. In an interview to an English daily, Mr Chidambaram said the content of the demand for autonomy is a matter for dialogue and discussion. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar has said that any body and any group can meet the All Party delegation. He strongly refuted PDP charge that the state government is trying to keep away general people and civil society from meeting the Delegation. Earlier, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti had alleged that the state government wants the All Party Delegation to meet only the main stream parties.
