Seeking ways to defuse the three -month unrest in Kashmir Valley, an all-party delegation led by Home Minister P Chidambaram commenced a series of meetings in Srinagar.The National Conference, which met the delegation strongly pitched for restoration of autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir.Talking to reporters after the meeting, senior National Conference leader and Finance Minister, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather said, the autonomy of the State has been eroded. Pleading for taking the dialogue process forward, he said, the recent statements of the Home Minister have given much hope.In reply to a question, he said, that anybody found guilty of human rights violations will be given stringent punishment.PDP's Mehbooba Mufti will not be meeting the delegation, but party's General Secretary Mohd Dilawar Meer will be accompanied by 14 party members.The team, which arrived in Srinagar on a crucial two-day visit to assess the ground situation, was received by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.Some members of the delegation are likely to call on hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani at his Hyderpora residence.The Delegation will also hold discussions with representatives of trade unions, civil society and student organizations to find solution to the current crisis.Leaders of the prominent political parties including Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley of the BJP, Basudev Acharia and Sitaram Yechury of the CPI(M), Gurudas Das Gupta of the CPI and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav are part of the delegation.The Central Government has sent invitations to all political parties and groups including two factions of Hurriyat and JKLF.Meanwhile, in view of the scheduled visit of All Party Delegation to Jammu on Tuesday , security has been beefed up in Jammu and multi-tier security arrangements have been made to prevent any untoward incident taking place in the City.Inspector General of Police, Jammu Range, Ashok Gupta told AIR Correspondent that an alert has been sounded in entire Jammu region and police personnel have been deployed in strength to keep round the clock vigil in sensitive areas of the region to foil any nefarious designs of militants and anti-social elements.
