The Prime Minister has called upon all political parties to rise above narrow considerations and cooperate in bringing about a strong Lok Pal.

Addressing a rally at Amritsar he said corruption is a serious problem requiring a multi-dimensional response. He said the UPA Government is determined to deal with corruption in an effective manner and committed to bring a strong Lokpal. The Lok Pal bill was even passed in the Lok Sabha but got stuck in the Rajya Sabha.

Therefore all parties should cooperate to achieve this. He was hopeful of a strong Lokpal in place in near future. Referring to the steps taken in e-governance to contain the menace he said efforts are on to get rid of this disease.

Dr.Singh blamed the Shiromani Akali Dal – BJP alliance for misrule in Punjab plunging the state in to a huge debt of one lakh 20 thousand crore rupees. He said the funds sent by the centre for public benefit were used for other activities, which are of no use to the common man. He said this is the reason why the state slipped form number one position in development and lags behind others.
