All major rivers flowing above danger level in Manipur

In Manipur, all major rivers are flowing above danger level following incessant rain during the past three days. Major business centres of Imphal City like Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar have been inundated. Many shops in the main market areas of the city have been closed due to flood. Several low lying areas of Imphal and its adjoining areas have been submerged following overflowing of Rivers – Nambul, Imphal and Lilong. Normal life in the state has been hit by the rain affecting paddy harvesting and damaging standing crops. Reports from the Meteorological Office in Imphal say that the rain is caused by the formation of a low pressure area above the Bay of Bengal. It has forecast good chance of fine weather in the next few days.
