The 77th edition of prestigious all India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana will begin in Bangalore on Friday. The three day event will draw eminent personalities from Kannada literature and Cinema, who will deliberate upon various issues concerning the language which has earned seven Gnana Peeth Awards. The main attraction is the book exhibition which is likely to draw about 60,000 people every day. The State Government has spent one crore rupees for the event. The State Government employees have donated one day salary for the Sammelan. All the schools in Bangalore have declared holiday for two days to enable teachers and the children to visit the Sammelan. Veteran Kannada scholar and lexicologist Prof. G Venkatasubbaiah has been selected as the Chairman of this year’s Sammelan. He will be brought in a grand procession to the Sammelan venue in a chariot. The Sammelan will thereafter be inaugurated in the afternoon by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.
