The Home Minister, Mr P Chidambaram has said that the Government will make all efforts to heal the wounds of Sikh community which suffered during the 1984 riots across the country. Replying to a discussion in response to a Calling Attention notice on the subject in the Rajya Sabha today, Mr Chidambaram said the first three days of November in 1984 were black days in the country’s history and no civilised society will defend that. The Home Minister said that he will try his best to get the culprits to the justice. Giving details about the action against the political leaders, the Home Minister said the CBI has completed investigation and reinvestigation of seven cases registered against three political leaders. He said while in four cases, the CBI has sought permission from the Competent Authority to prosecute the accused, in one case closure report has been filed and accepted by the court. He said that the Centre has already asked the Lt. Governor of Delhi to give permission to CBI to prosecute them by end of this month. Replying to calling attention in Rajya Sabha on the issue , the Home Minister Mr P Chidambaram said that the CBI has completed investigation or re-investigation of seven cases against politicians. He said that the case against Dharamdas Shastri has been closed and the case agaianst Jagdish Tytler who was chargesheeted has been pending before the court..Asserting that there was no interference in these cases, Chidambaram said his only advice was to proceed on an impartial, fearless and speedy inquiry . He said that it is most unsatisfactory that no police personnel was convicted for dereliction of duty. Mr Chidambaram said that he will attempt to see how the cases against police personnel guilty of grave dereliction of durty are opened and action initiated against them. The Home Minister said that every attempt is being made to make up for the inaction in the past years in the 1984 riot cases. Apologising to the Sikh community for the loss suffered by them, he said that the government will do its best to heal their wounds.<br/>Admitting that there has been a delay in distributing compensation to the families of the victims , Mr Chidambaram assured the members that there will be no delay . Listing the compensation paid so far , the home minister said so far over 462 crore have been disbursed out of 714.76 crore rupees . He said that over 26 hundred cases are pending and he is writing to the chief ministers to expedite the payment of compensation. On the request for jobs, he said over 1115 requests have been received by the delhi government and he said he will ensure that the process to give jobs to those eligible is completed as fast as possible<br/>Dissatisfied with the reply of the home minister, BJP and Akali members staged a walkout.
