Alert sounded in Punjab as Sutlej overflows

In Punjab, a special alert has been sounded on India’s border adjoining Pakistan as the overflowing of Satluj river has affected about two dozen Border out Posts (BoPs) of Border Security Force (BSF) in Gurdaspur and upto Fazilka and Abohar in Ferozepur sector. IG, BSF, Punjab Frontier, Himmat Singh told AIR news that the Cobra fencing dividing the borders of both the neighbours has also been damaged at some places in Ferozepur sector. However, the BSF personnel’s are guarding the flooded areas of border in boats, round the clock to avoid any sneak-in by anti-social elements in India from across the border.AIR correspondent Rajesh Bali reports from Jalandhar that there are 10 to 12 Border out Posts in Ferozepur and same number of BoPs in Gurdaspur which have been damaged due to overflowing of Satluj. Cobra fencing has also been flooded in some areas of Ferozepur sector.The BSF personnels vigilantly guarding the border are using night devices and Hand Held Thermal Imagers to find out movement by any anti-social element from across the border.Mr. Himmat Singh, who has visited some of the areas in Ferozepur Sector, today, has said that besides guarding the border, BSF is also ready with the boats to help villagers in case if they get stranded in flood waters.
