Alert sounded in Assam after ULFA threat

In Assam, an alert has been sounded throughout the state, a day after the banned extremist outfit United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) threatened to attack security forces and vital installations in the state ahead of Republic Day celebrations. The Assam police chief, Mr Shankar Baruah told journalists in Guwahati on Thursday that security forces have been asked to be alert and extra vigilant. Though this kind of threat is nothing new in but the state police are not taking any chances, Mr Baruah added. The Self-styled ULFA Commander-in-Chief, Paresh Baruah on Wednesday threatened to target security forces and vital installations in the state ahead of ensuing Republic Day.
