Alert sounded along Indo-Pak border due to infectious disease

Punjab Health Department has sounded alert along Indo-Pak border due to outbreak of Dengu and Polio in Pakistan. Deputy Commissioner of Union Health Ministry Pardeep Haldar has reached Amritsar on Tuesday to check steps being taken as safety measures as Lahore where outbreak of Dengu is reported is very near to Amritsar and visitors daily reach India via Amritsar from Pakistan.

Talking to newsmen in Amritsar Mr. Haldar said that 70 cases of Polio have been reported in Pakistan and Dengu cases were also reported from Lahore. Amritsar Civil Surgeon Doctor Avtar Singh said that health check up of every person entering India from Pakistan has been made mandatory and all children coming from Pakistan are being administered polio drops. Punjab Government has also started a week long polio campaign for the children of migratory persons.
