Akhilesh visits Muzaffarnagar, Ex. SSP suspended

In Uttar Predesh, the situation in the city areas of Muzaffarnagar is normal and peaceful even on the sixth day of curfew relaxation. Authorities have withdrawn day curfew from all the three police areas of the city. People in large numbers have out of their houses and doing their normal and routine works.

The state government today suspended the already shifted SSP of Muzaffaranagar, Subhash Chandra Dubey. A home department release said in Lucknow that besides, a departmental action has also been ordered against him for his failure in timely checking the violence.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is on a day long visit to violence hit areas of Muzaffarnagar and Shamli today to take stock of the ground situation. On his arrival, he visited Kaval village to meet the kin of youths killed on August 27 in a clash triggered by charges of eve teasing which later became the cause of widespread group clashes in Muzaffarnagar and other adjoining areas.

Mr. Akhilesh Yadav will also visit Kandhla area of Shamli where people were compelled to leave their houses en masse after worst kind of group clashes. Mr. Yadav will take the first hand information by visiting the injured of violence who are undergoing treatment in hospitals.

It is pertinent to mention that Monsoon session of the state legislature is scheduled to begin from 16th September, tomorrow. It is expected to be very stormy not only in the wake of Muzaffarnagar violence but also due to severe criticism of the opposition parties on the alleged failure of law and order machinery in the state.

The Prime Minister is likely to visit Muzaffarnagar tomorrow. PMO sources said in New Delhi that Dr. Manmohan Singh will make an on-the-spot assessment of the situation. He is expected to discuss the situation with Mr. Akhilesh Yadav. Dr. Singh will also visit hospitals where the injured are admitted.
