Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhism, has directed Punjab Revenue Minister and Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia to undergo religious punishment for distorting Gurbani during an election rally. The punishment involves performing Sewa at the community feasts of all the five Takhts.
Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh pronounced the punishment from the balcony of the Akal Takht last evening while Majithia stood outside with folded hands. In his pronouncement, the Jathedar said, Majithia had distorted the pious ‘baani’ of Guru Gobind Singh during a public rally after which various Sikh organisations had expressed resentment while demanding that he be punished.
