The annual Akashvani award will be given in New Delhi today. Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu will confer the award.<br/><br/> Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore will also be present on the occasion. <br/><br/>The Akashvani awards were instituted in 1974 to promote professional excellence and bring out the best from the staff working at various radio stations and installations.<br/><br/> Awards are given for Best Trainer (Programme), Best Training Institute (Programme), Best Regional News Unit and Best News Editor of the Year. <br/><br/>Besides, awards are given for outstanding Radio Plays, Documentaries, Musical Productions, Innovative Programmes, and Programmes on Family Welfare. <br/><br/>In each category two prizes are awarded for the Producer and Production Team. Trophies are also given to the Stations winning the first prize in each category of programmes.
