Ajmal Kasab hanged at Yerwada Jail in Pune

The Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist and perpetrator of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack Ajmal Kasab was hanged in Yarawada jail of Pune at 7.30 this morning. , President Pranab Mukherjee had rejected the mercy petition filed by Ajmal Kasab sentenced to death for his role in the November 26, 2008 terror attack on Mumbai.

Confirming the execution Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde told reporters in New Delhi this morning that the date for execution of Kasab was decided early this month. The information in this regard was sent to Pakistan government by Ministry of External Affairs through fax.

Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil informed reporters in Mumbai that Kasab was shifted from his high-security Arthur Road Jail cell in Mumbai to the Yerawada jail in Pune two days ago. Since his arrest in 2008, Kasab was kept in a bulletproof cell in Mumbai's Arthur Road jail.

He was sentenced to death by the Bombay High Court in October last year. He was convicted on charges ranging from treason to waging war against India.
