Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh has said that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, DGCA, would decide whether crisis-hit Kingfisher Airlines fulfills safety and maintenance requirements.
Talking to the media in New Delhi today, Mr Singh said the airline is supposed to reply to the show-cause notice issued by DGCA by the 20th of this month. He said the aviation regulator is bound to take action if the airline fails to adhere to guidelines.
AIR correspondent reports, DGCA had issued a show-cause notice to Kingfisher Airlines on the 5th of this month asking why its flying license should not be suspended or cancelled as it had grounded its entire fleet and failed to offer safe, efficient and reliable service.
Meanwhile, the Kingfisher Airlines has announced to keep its flights grounded till 20th of this month.
In another development, a Hyderabad court has issued a non-bailable warrant against Vijay Mallya and five others in a cheque bounce case.
The case was filed in August by GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited after four cheques of over 10 crore rupees issued by Kingfisher towards user charges bounced.
