Ajit Pawar resignation: NCP Party meet today

A crucial meeting of the NCP Legislature Party will be held in Mumbai today to discuss the political situation following Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's resignation from the Cong-NCP alliance government in Maharashtra.

Pawar resigned amid allegations of irregularities in granting administrative approvals for projects involving several crore of rupees during his decade-long tenure as Irrigation Minister. He holds Finance and Energy portfolios in the Prithviraj Chavan government. 20 other NCP ministers have also sent their resignations to state party chief Madhukar Pichad.NCP chief Sharad Pawar supported Ajit Pawar's decision but said that the Maharashtra government will not be stirred by the resignation. He said, there is no threat to the state government. Sharad Pawar also said that Maharashtra government should come out with a white paper on the alleged irrigation scam to bring out the truth.

Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said, he will discuss with his party leaders of his party NCP before taking a decision on the resignation of his deputy Ajit Pawar.
There are 61 NCP MLAs in the 288-member House. Congress has 82 MLAs, while opposition Shiv Sena has 45 and BJP has 47 members.
