Ajit Parasnis appointed new Maharashtra DGP

The Maharashtra Government today appointed Ajit Parasnis as the new Director General of Police. 59-year-old, Mr. Parasnis, who currently holds the title of Director General (Home Guards), succeeds D Sivanandan whose term ends today. Maharashtra’s Home Minister, Mr. R R Patil made this announcement in Mumbai. He also announced that Arup Patnaik will take charge as Mumbai Police Commissioner. Currently holding the charge of Additional Director General (Highway Traffic), Arup Patnaik of 1979 IPS batch will replace Sanjeev Dayal. Meanwhile, Mr. Dayal, a 1977 batch officer has been promoted as Director General (Housing), a post lying vacant since the retirement of P P Srivastava a few months ago.
