Aircel-Maxis deal case: CBI has enough evidence to chargesheet Dayanidhi Maran and brother says AG

Attorney General Mukul Rohtagi has said that there is enough evidence with the CBI to file a chargesheet against former Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran and his brother Kalanithi in the Aircel-Maxis deal case.

Though CBI sources said the agency is yet to receive the opinion of the Attorney General, highly-placed sources in the government said that Rohtagi dispatched his opinion saying the available material with CBI is enough to prosecute Dayanidhi and Kalanithi.

The matter was escalated to the office of the Attorney General as there was a difference of opinion between the investigation team and the CBI Director Ranjit Sinha on chargesheeting the Maran brothers in the case.

The CBI, in 2011, had filed its FIR in the case alleging that the then Telecom Minister Dayanidhi had used his influence to help Malaysian business tycoon T Ananda Krishnan acquire Aircel by coercing its owner Chinnakannan Sivasankaran.

Maran, who has been examined by the CBI, has denied all the allegations levelled against him and his family members.
