An Air New Zealand Boeing 767 carrying 216 passengers made an emergency landing in Auckland on Thursday. The airline said, the pilot was forced to shut down an engine after take-off, possibly due to a bird strike. The pilot of the Perth-bound plane reported a problem with the an engine shortly after leaving Auckland Airport and landed safely about half an hour later. The plane was at 1,800 feet when the problem occurred and the pilot briefed passengers as they prepared to land that any flame seen from the engine is not unusual when it is shut down in flight.
