The Air mail service is completing its 100 years. The world's first official Airmail was flown from Allahabad to Naini in February 1911. To mark this occasion, an air mail flight will take off today from Allahabad to Naini. The historic flight, which took off on 18th February 1911 from Allahabad to Naini, was a landmark day in world Postal history. Hundred years ago the first airmail flight had taken off from Allahabad to naini covering a distance of about five miles. It carried 6,500 letters and some picture postcards showing the aviator in the aero plane. The then United province of Agra and Oudh held an aero plane exhibition at Allahabad to demonstrate a new development in transport and rapid and safe transportation of mail as well. Captain Walter Windhman of the aero plane club of Britain landed at Allahabad with six aero planes for this air show and thus the world first airmail was born. Today, Uttar Pradesh Governor will release a set of four stamps and the special helicopter with letters will fly again on the same route to remember the historic day paying tributes to the pioneers of airmail service.
