Air India regain Guru Tegh Bahadur Hockey title after 7 years

Star-studded Air India have regained the Guru Tegh Bahadur Hockey title after seven years. In the final in Mumbai on Thursday, they prevailed over defending champions Army XI 3-1 via the penalty shoot-out after the two teams were deadlocked goalless in regular play. Air India had won the title earlier in 2008. Air India's experienced custodian Adrian D'Souza got beaten only once out of four essays in the shoot-out. Fittingly the former India custodian got the player of the final award from the tournament's organisers – Mumbai Hockey Association Limited – at their Mahindra Stadium. Army custodian Najmudeen who also had a good game was also declared as the best goalkeeper in the tournament. The winning team got 1.5 lakh rupees, while therunners-up received Rs 75,000.
