Air India Pilots strike enters fourth day

With the agitation by Air India Executive pilots entering the fourth day on Tuesday, the airlines cancelled over 20 flights, including 15 from the national capital.<br/>Talks between the management and the striking Executive pilots on Monday failed to break the deadlock over the issue of cut in perks. According to Indian Airlines sources, about 10 domestic flights to Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai, Guwahati, Mumbai and other west-bound destinations from New Delhi were cancelled besides five flights to Kabul, Kathmandu, New York, London and Chicago.The flights have been cancelled after the pilots of these flights reported sick. About five domestic morning flights from Chennai and few others from Mumbai and Kolkata also remained cancelled.<br/>A section of senior pilots of the national carrier have been reporting sick for their duties, since Saturday, in protest against the management's decision to cut their perks and also full payment of the due allowances.<br/>After speculation that Air India may suspend operations over the stalemate with the striking pilots, the Civil Aviation Ministry has ruled out a closure of the airline and asked the management to enter into a comprehensive dialogue with all sections of employees. The Ministry also appealed to the Executive pilots to immediately end their strike . Civil Aviation Secretary M Madhavan Nambiar said the Air India management has not taken any decision on the cut of the Productivity Linked Incentives (PLI) or any allowance of the employees. He said that a decision regarding the executive employees will be taken only after examining all aspects by the committee set up to look into this matter.<br/>Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Secretary held a meeting on Tuesday morning with the Chairman and Managing Director of Air India Mr.Arvind Jadav. He also held talks with representatives of other Airlines to meet the situation.
