Air India pilots’ call off strike

The Air India pilots' strike has been called off and flight services are likely to be restored immediately. Captain V K Bhalla, who led the pilots' agitation, announced this in New Delhi yesterday. Talking to reporters he said that the step has been taken in view of assurances by the Civil Aviation minister Mr. Praful Patel.Mr Praful Patel said that Air India management will soon set up a committee of pilots and civil aviation ministry representatives to work on a turn around plan and discuss the issues. While extending apologies to the public for the inconvenience during the strike, the executive director of Air India, Mr Jitendra Bhargava said the order to cut productivity linked incentives will not be implemented. About 200 pilots have reported sick since Saturday in protest against a fifty per cent cut in their Productivity Linked Incentives(PLI) and payment of their flying allowance due for three months. The strike had forced the airline to cancel over 240 flights in the last four days. The Air India flight operations originating from UAE are expected to become normal from this evening following the withdrawal of agitation by Air India Executive pilots. The UAE country manager of Air India Anand Pandey told our Dubai correspondent y that flight had been partially affected due to strike and the passengers from affected flights were accommodated in the Air India express and some other flights.
