AIR Independence Day series India@75 : Theme, ‘Tricolur, History, Evolution & Significance’

India will complete 75 years of its Independence on 15th of this month. This year, Independence Day will take place amidst the ongoing Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.<br />”<br />”In the run-up to the Independence Day celebration, All India Radio News is running a special series from today India@75. Today, the theme is&nbsp; Tricolur, History, Evolution and Significance.<br />”<br />”The Indian National Flag represents national integrity and signifies&nbsp; hopes and aspirations of the people of India. It is the symbol of our national pride and there is universal affection and respect for and loyalty to the National Flag. It occupies a unique and special place in the emotions and psyche of the people of India.<br />”<br />”The Indian National Flag&nbsp; which is in&nbsp; use&nbsp; was&nbsp; designed by&nbsp; a great freedom fighter and follower of Gandhian principles&nbsp; Pingali Venkayya . In 1921, the Father of the Nation&nbsp; Mahatma Gandhi gave him&nbsp; the task of designing the National flag. On 22nd July in 1947 the National Flag was adopted. Our&nbsp; national flag is made up of three colour bands of equal width-&nbsp; the top being saffron, white in the middle, and green at the bottom. In the centre of the white band, there is a navy-blue wheel with 24 spokes called Dharma Chakra. The saffron, or the Kesari colour signifies strength and courage, while the white colour in the middle is a symbol of peace and purity. The green colour at the bottom signifies fertility and growth. The navy blue-coloured Dharma Chakra at the centre of the white band is made up of 24 spokes. It depicts motion, signifying persistent efforts and progress<br />”On August 15, 1947, the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, hoisted the National Flag at Red Fort in Delhi.<br />”The use, display and hoisting of the Indian National Flag is governed by the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971 and the Flag Code of India, 2002.&nbsp; The Flag Code brings together all laws, conventions, practices, and instructions for the display of the National Flag and governs the display of the National Flag by Private, Public, and Government Institutions. The Flag Code of India took effect on 26th January 2002.<br />”<br />”In December last year, the Flag Code of India, 2002, was amended and the National Flag made of polyester or machine made&nbsp; have been allowed. Now, the National Flag shall be made of handspun and handwoven or machine-made, cotton, polyester, wool, silk and khadi bunting. The National Flag shall be rectangular in shape and it&nbsp; can be of any size but the ratio of the length to the width of the Flag shall be 3:2.<br />”<br />”As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Har Ghar Tiranga movement&nbsp; and called upon the people to hoist the Tricolour or display it in their&nbsp; homes between 13th and 15th August. This movement will deepen our&nbsp; connect with the national flag.<br />”<br />”Last month, in his&nbsp; Mann Ki Baat programme at All India Radio, the Prime Minister urged the countrymen to participate in Har Ghar Tiranga movement.<br />
