In Jammu and Kashmir,the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was partially opened today as authorities allowed a restricted number of vehicles to pass from Srinagar to Jammu.The move comes a day after hundreds of stranded trucks carrying essential supplies to the valley were cleared. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has so far airlifted around 1900 stranded passengers and the security personel from Srinagar and Jammu as they pressed IL-76 and AN-32 planes into services to create air-bridge between two cities.These passengers were stranded at Jammu and Srinagar for past six days due to the closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Besides around 2,000 passengers had registered for being airlifted. The 294km highway was closed for vehicular traffic on Thursday after fresh snowfall triggered massive landslides at several places and rendered the road slippery stranding over 3,000 vehicles. Meanwhile, the pilgrimage at world famous Mata Vaishno Deviji is going on smoothely and about 13000 yatris are reaching the Katra basecamp every day.
