The Truckers body, All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) last night called off their proposed indefinite strike from the sixth of this month. The AIMTC president G R Shanmugappa said in New Delhi that the decision to defer the strike till further notice was taken following an assurance by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to solve the issues, including reducing toll charges, within 10 days. Earlier, AIMTC had decided to indefinitely keep over 60 lakh trucks off the roads across the country from August 6, in view of the government's failure to act on their demands to lower toll tax and take a re-look on the toll policy.
