AIMPLB to appeal against Ayodhya verdict

The Executive Committee of the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board, AIMPLB has decided to move to the Supreme Court against the Allahabad High Court verdict on the Ayodhya title issue. The AIMPLB that met at Nadwatul Uloom at Lucknow on Saturday said the judgement delivered by the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on 30th of last month contained many infirmities and so an appeal in the apex court was necessary. The AIMPLB, however, said it was ready to consider any proposal for a negotiated settlement to the 60-year-old dispute if it was in keeping with the Constitution, Shariat and upholds the dignity of Muslims.Addressing reporters after the meeting, assistant general secretary of the Board, M A Rahim Qureshi and convenor of the legal cell, Y H Muchala said that the AIMPLB has unanimously decided to approach the apex court. The AIMPLB President and its General Secretary will decide whether to intervene directly or do so through any of the other parties involved in the case.AIR Lucknow correspondent reports AIMPLB's decision stamped the Sunni Wakf Board's stance and, therefore, hardly came as a surprise. One of the oldest plaintiff of the case Hindu Mahasabha has already announced to move to the apex court as it was not in favour of division of disputed land. A key party in the title suit Nirmohi Akhara also announced that it would challenge the Allahabad High Court's verdict to divide the disputed site into three parts between the Akhara, Ram Lalla and the Sunni Waqf board.
