Aim of Govt and civil society same, only methodology needs to be synchronized: Abhishek Singhvi

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Lokpal Bill is studying the civil society's version of the bill. Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, Chairman of Committee Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that they will look into all aspects in detail before making their final recommendations to Parliament. He also said that the Committee is looking into the representations being sent by the general public in response to the advertisements issued by the Committee yesterday. Stating that the Standing Committee is the best platform to hold negotiations, Mr Singhvi said that no one should try to undermine its sanctity. He said that the Government shares the concern of people against the high level of corruption in the country. He however said that collective efforts must be made to find concrete solutions to the problem. Mr Singhvi said that the aim of the government and the civil society is same, only the methodolgy needs to be synchronised.The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had yesterday said that the Government is for a strong Lok Pal Bill and open to discussion on the issue. Calling for a broad national consensus, Dr. Manmohan Singh expressed the hope that the government can enlist the cooperation of all thinking segments of public opinion to ensure that the end product is a strong and effective Lokpal which all sections of the community want. Meanwhile social activist Anna Hazare continued his fast at Ram Lila ground on the sixth day today to press for his demand for a strong Lokpal.
