AIIMS to prepare own guidelines for providing counselling to Hereditary Gynaecological cancer patients

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi is working on preparing its own guidelines and protocol for providing counselling and addressing the problems of patients&nbsp; suffering from Hereditary Gynaecological cancers or familial cancers like breast, ovarian and uterine cancers.<br />” &nbsp;<br />” Familial cancers account for around five per cent of cancers in women. Among genetic syndrome that may show gynaecological manifestations, hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome is the most common primarily characterised by mutations in genes.<br />” &nbsp;<br />” Dr Sushma Bhatnagar, Chief of National Cancer Institute at AIIMS in Jhajjar told media in New Delhi that the work in this regard has already begun and research facilities have been provided to the experts drawn from the Oncology Department. She expressed hope that the guidelines will be ready within one to two years.<br />” &nbsp;<br />” Talking to AIR News, Dr Neerja Bhatla, Head Department of Obstetrics&nbsp; and Gynaecology, AIIMS said that genetic testing can be helpful in preventing the occurence of familial cancers in those who are&nbsp; at risk.<br />” &nbsp;<br />” Our correspondent reports that a programme on the subject-Hereditary Gynaecological Cancers From Evidence to Practice was also organised at AIIMS to enhance awareness about these types of cancers and promote research collaboration in this field.&nbsp;
