AIIMS doctors reach Chhattisgarh to provide treatment to sterilization surgery affected women

A team of medical experts from AIIMS has reached Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh. Our Correspondent reports that this team will provide treatment to women whose condition is reported to be critical after the botched sterilisation surgery at a government health camp. This camp was organised in Pendari village of Takhatpur block in Bilaspur district last Saturday as part of family planning programme.

State Chief Minister Raman Singh talked to Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda yesterday and requested him to send experts from AIIMS for the treatment of affected women. Twelve women have died so far in the incident and condition of eight women was reported to be critical. More than 50 women are undergoing treatment in four different hospitals of Bilsapur.

Meanwhile, the statewide bandh called by opposition Congress today protesting against the incident has evoked mixed response. Schools and establishments remain closed in parts of the State. In capital Raipur, congress workers threw stones on a school bus. Minor clashes between Congress workers and police have been reported at some places. Congress is demanding the resignation of state Health Minister.
