AIADMK retains Tiruchi seat, N.R. Congress wins Indira Nagar by-poll

In Tamil Nadu, ruling AIADMK has retained the Tiruchirapalli West Assembly seat for which by-poll was held on the 13th of this month. AIADMK’s M. Paramjothy defeated his nearest rival DMK’s K N Nehru by fourteen thousand seven hundred and eighty seven votes. Paramjothi polled sixty nine thousand twenty nine votes and K N Nehru got fifty four thousand two hundred and forty two votes in the by-election.

Fourteen candidates have lost their deposits in this election. With this the number of AIADMK MLAs has increased to 150 in Tamil Nadu assembly.

In Puducherry, the ruling N.R. Congress has retained the Indira Nagar Assembly constituency where by election was held on the 13th of this month.

The ruling party candidate Thamizhselvan defeated his nearest rival A.K.D Armugham of Congress party by a margin of 8046 votes.

The AIADMK candidate Mr Bhaskaran finished third. Five candidates including Mr Bhaskaran lost their deposit.

AIR correspondent reports that the victory for the ruling party is significant as its strength in the 30 member assembly goes up to 15.
