AIADMK MLAs likely to decide today their new leader in place of J Jayalalithaa

The successor of Tamilnadu Chief Minister Ms.Jayalalithaa will be decided at the AIADMK MLAs meeting to be held today. Party sources said that the meeting is likely to be held late this evening after all the MLAs and ministers will return from Bangalore and other places.

The decision taken at the meeting will be informed to Governor Dr.K.Rosaiah. The swearing in of the new Chief Minister will take place tomorrow after the Governor specifies the time.

Meanwhile, Former Chief Secretary Sheela Balakrishnan who is advisor to the present Government and three other senior officials have gone to Bangalore to meet the AIADMK Supremo Ms.Jayalalithaa.

The law and order situation is slowly limping back to normalcy. The Tamilnadu police department has said that severe action would be taken against those who disrupt law and order. Lesser number of train and bus services have resumed as a precautionary measure.

As far as the ruling AIADMK party is concerned, it is an accepted fact that the party's general secretary Ms.Jayalalithaa is the sole authority and the axle. The party faced a similar situation in September 2001 when Ms.Jayalalithaa resigned and O.Panneerselvam was sworn in.

In the history of the AIADMK, it was only the loyalists who kept the party intact whenever the supremos like late MG.Ramachandran and Ms.Jayalalithaa had to step down from being Chief Ministership. For MG.Ramachandran it was his failing health and for Ms.Jayalalithaa it was the legal implications.

Authorities from the Special Court of Bangalore gave the copy of the verdict to Tamilnadu Governor Dr.K.Rosaiah.

The DMDK Chief Vijayakant met the Governor and later told newspersons that he had given a report on the law and order disturbances in the State. Yesterday DMK President M.Karunanidhi also wrote a letter to the Governor and the President on the law and order situation. Long distance buses are yet to resume normally.

In Madurai AIADMK members held a protest march demanding the release of the AIADMK supremo Ms.Jayalalithaa.
