In the Rajya Sabha today, members from the AIADMK and the Left parties wanted the Central Government to take up the cause of conducting a genuine war crime inquiry into the killing of Tamils in Sri Lanka during the 2009 internal war. Raising the issue during Zero hour, AIADMK member Dr VK Maitreyan said over 1 lakh 50,000 innocent Tamils were killed in the island nation. <br/><br/>He said in 2015, a resolution was passed in the UN Human Rights Commission in its Geneva meet with the participation of Sri Lanka to undertake an investigation with independent jurists and said the Sri Lankan President in just 48 hours later reneged on his stand and refused any access to international panel. <br/><br/>Dr Maitreyan wanted India to urge for an international inquiry in the UNHRC when the issue is coming up for voting on 22nd of this month.
