AI cancels 10 Int'l flights as strike enters eighth day

Government says, strict action will be taken against those striking pilots who have falsely reported sick and not joined work. The Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said this in New Delhi today. A medical summary issued by the Aviation Ministry stated that most of the Air India Pilots who called in sick were neither found at home by doctors sent by the Airlines nor reported to doctors empanelled by the company.

The Air India Pilots have not been reporting for duty in protest against rescheduling of training programme of dream liner and issues related to their career progression. The agitation by over 200 Air India Pilots entered 8th day today and ten international flights from Delhi and Mumbai have been cancelled so far.

An Air India spokesman said that as part of the contingency plan, the carrier operated Delhi -Toronto, Delhi-New York routes and expressed hope that more national and international flights will operate in near future. Our correspondent reports that air travellers are facing a tough time with the summer vacations of many holiday makers running into rough weather.
