Agro festival of Assam- kati Bihu

In Assam, the most popular agricultural festival- the Kati Bihu is being celebrated across the State with religious fervor and traditional manner. Kati bihu is closely related to agriculture. The farming communities worship the Tulsi plant and pray the god for a bumper harvest and lit lamps in their paddy fields, particularly in the evening on bihu. The Kati bihu is celebrated on the first day of the 'Kati' month in Assamese calendar. This is the period of time in the year when the paddy grows in the fields and cultivators work hard and eagerly wait for a good harvest. This bihu is also popularly known as the Kangali bihu as the period witness emptiness in the granariesof the hard working cultivators. This is the only bihu which keep itself aside from colorful joy of life but more into bitter reality of a cultivator. It has got more importance to religious values than two other Bihus- Rongali and Bhogali.
