The Union Agriculture Ministry will promote cold storage chain in the country on Public Private Partnership. The Union Minister of State for Agriculture Prof. K V Thomas informed this in Bangalore today. The Cooperative Sector will also be asked to promote cold chain, he added. A Committee has been formed to find ways and means to increase cold Chain link in the country, he noted. The farmers are unable to get appropriate prices for their produce due to lack of cold storage facilities. If the facility is made available to the farmers they can sell their produce when the prices are good, he explained. The minister informed that they are expecting bumper production of wheat and rice during this season and hence the Food Corporation of India is asked to prepare for procurement and storage, he said.
