Agriculture Ministry dismisses reports that Indosulphur pesticide banned in country

The Agriculture Ministry today dismissed reports that Indosulphur pesticide has been banned in the country. Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar informed the Rajya Sabha that two committees, one by the Centre and another by the Kerala government were appointed to look into the adverse impact of the pesticide after it was banned in several countries across the world, but no committee has recommended it's banning. He said scientific studies of the pesticides are being conducted at regular intervals and 27 such pesticides have already been banned. <br/> <br/>Mr Pawar said that government has been associating the pesticide industry in training and seed treatment initiatives from time to time. He elaborated an integrated pest management strategy is in place to address plant protection issues. Mr Pawar asserted that suitable interventions are also being undertaken through other schemes including Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana. <br/>
