Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar made a strong case for expediting export of Skimmed Milk Power, SMP. Talking to reporters in New Delhi on Tuesday, Mr Pawar said that natural milk availability in the country is good. He said the country have SMP stock of one year and the country needs to clear the surplus stock as soon as possible as there are chances of it getting damaged. AIR Correspondent reports that milk production in India is estimated at over 120 million tonnes in 2011. The dairy industry feels exports will help improve their financial situation as they were not making profit through sale of skimmed milk powder due to steep fall in domestic prices following large supplies.
