Agri Min lays stone of Gokul Gram at Mathura for conserving native cattle breeds

Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh today laid the foundation stone of a Gokul Gram at Mathura in Uttar Pradesh for the conservation and development of native cattle breeds. On the occasion, Mr Singh also announced setting up of 14 such Grams across the country as part of the Rashtriya Gokul Mission. He said, the first Gokul Gram is going to be established in Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay's birth place, Mathura. <br/><br/>An official release said, Gokul Gram will work as a centre for development of native breed cattle and will also supplement resources of cattle farmers in breeding areas. Mr Singh, the government has made several plans for the development of agriculture farmers are getting benefits. <br/><br/>The Agriculture Minister said, the country is set to harvest record 270 million tonnes of foodgrains in 2016-17 crop year on account of good monsoon, while pulses output is expected rise to 21 million tonnes.<br/><br/>He said horticulture, particularly in fruit and vegetables is continuously growing and it has crossed 280 million tonne mark. He said that food security of the country has become strong and the country is self dependent in food grains. <br/><br/>Mr Singh also inaugurated a waste sewage-water treatment plant and four day Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Krishi Unnati Mela – 2016, in Mathura. He also conferred Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Krishi Antyodaya Krishi Awards to 12 poor farmers identified across the country for their outstanding achievement in agriculture despite not having access to education and money. Mr Singh requested farmers and entrepreneurs to take more benefit from the agriculture fair.
