Police resorted to lathicharge and burst tear gas shells to prevent a protest rally led by Opposition Asom Gana Parishad from entering Assam secretariat in Guwahati today. <br/><br/>Officials said that the agitators were protesting the alleged multi-crore rupees scam in N C Hills District Autonomous Council and price rise. The batoncharge and teargassing took place when over 4,000 agitators attempted to break the barricades put up by police and CRPF and enter the high-security Dispur area. <br/><br/>The officials said, other opposition parties — BJP, AUDF, CPI and CPI(M), too participated in the rally. Meanwhile, one person was killed and 27 others were injured when a bus in which they were travelling overturned near Khanapara area while they were proceeding for the rally from Morigaon district.
