AGP declares its 2nd list of candidates

In Assam, the regional party, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has declared its second list of candidates containing 35 names for the ensuing two-phased Assembly polls slated for 4th and 11th of next month.In Monday’s list, the party has nominated 17 sitting Legislators of the present Assembly. The leader of Opposition, former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta and former president of the party Brindabon Goswami have retained the Berhampur and Tezpur constituencies respectively. The party had earlier announced the names of 31 candidates for the ensuing polls. Meanwhile, the Chief Election Commissioner S.Y.Quaraishi, accompanied by two Election Commissioners on Monday reviewed the poll preparedness with the district election officers, the Divisional Commissioners, the superintendents of police, DIGs and IGPs at Guwahati.Earlier, the Commission separately met the representatives of the political parties and took their views for smooth conduct of the election. The Election Commission will have discussions with the State Chief Secretary, Home Commissioner and the Director General of Police on Tuesday morning at a meeting at Raj Bhavan in Guwahati to review the overall security management during the polls. The full Election Commission is on a two-day visit to the State from Monday.
