Agni-II to be put on test flight today evening

The much-awaited Agni-II surface-to-surface Intermediate Range Ballastic Missile will be put to test-flight from Wheeler Island off the Orissa coast tonight. This is the first time a missile will go for user-trial during night since beginning of the missile development programmes by the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO). The 2,000-km plus range Agni-II with a payload of about 1,000 kg will be conducted by the Indian Army anytime between 8.15 to 9 pm from launch pad number 4 of the Island.<br/>Agni-II has been designed to be launched from a rail and mobile launchers and also road-mobile configuration. The aim of the night trial is reported to provide on-field experience to the armed forces to gauge the accuracy during night. Meanwhile, hundreds of senior army officials and scientists are camping at the test range. Precautionary measures have been taken in and around the Wheeler Island for the trial of Agni-II.<br/><br/> <br/>
