The Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs took stock of the situation in Andhra Pradesh on Telangana issue. According to Prime Minister's Office (PMO), an appeal was also made to all political parties in Andhra Pradesh to maintain peace and harmony. The meeting which lasted for more than an hour last evening is understood to have discussed the political crisis over the issue. Earlier there was uproar in Lok Sabha leading to 15 minute adjournment when the matter was raised during zero hour with TDP members raising slogans for a united Andhra Pradesh. They were joined by some Congress MPs including Jagan Mohan Reddy, son of former Chief Minister of Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy. However, the Congress members belonging to Telangana region strongly objected to it. The issue was also raised in the Rajya Sabha during Zero Hour by BJP's Venkaiah Naidu who alleged that the centre was playing with the sentiments of thepeople of Andhra Pradesh. Blaming the TDP and its chief N Chandrababu Naidu for the current situation in the state, Jaganmohan later clarified that he was forced to exhibit his support for a united state in Lok Sabha today as he did not want TDP alone to take the credit for supporting a unified Andhra. However Congress MPs from Telangana region who later met Defence Minister Mr. A K Antony sought action against Jaganmohan Reddy for joining TDP in Lok Sabha in opposing separate Telangana state. In Andhra Pradesh, the agitation supporting the Unified State has been intensified in Rayalaseema and Coasta regions of the state in the absence of any significant resolve so far to over come the political crisis. The Ministers have decided to drop the proposal to resign at present even as the hectic parleys across the party lines are underway. Meanwhile, the Assembly speaker held a meeting with legal experts to resolve the crisis surfaced after over 140 MLAs resigned protesting the Centre’s decision to carve out Telangana state. Meanwhile, making their stand harder for the unified state, the MLAs belonged to Rayalaseema and Coasta regions across the party lines and those who tendered their resignations have called on the Governor N D Tiwari and urged him to help resolving the issue.Meanwhile, more MLAs are resorting to hunger strike protesting the proposal to bifurcate the state.
