Agitating Farmers disrupt road, rail services in Muzaffarnagar

Farmers agitating over State Advised Price (SAP) for sugarcane disrupted road and railway traffic in Muzaffarnagar today.<br/><br/> The strike was called by Rashtriya Lok Dal with the support of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) against SAP announced by the government. Police said,the BKU activists blocked the railway track at Mahsurpaur railway station and Delhi-Dehradun and Panipat-Khatima highways. <br/><br/>The Uttar Pradesh government had announced increase of 25 rupees per quintal in the sugarcane State Advised Price (SAP) whereby the sugar mills will now have to pay at least 129.84 rupees a quintal for buying sugarcane from farmers in<br/><br/>2009-10 season, an increase of about 50 rupees from the last season.<br/><br/> The farmers are, however, demanding a price of 280 rupees per quintal of cane. Last year, the SAP was 140.
