Agitated members of AKBSS stops water supply to National capital

The agitating members of Akhil Bharatiya Sangharsh Samiti today said that they are ready to hold talks with the authorities seeking reservation in government jobs. It however said that they will not withdraw there protest till their demands are met. The agitated workers of the Samiti have stopped water supply to the National capital affecting several parts of Delhi. A Delhi government official told AIR that they are in touch with the Uttar Pradesh government to restore water supply to the capital. <br/>Official sources said that Delhi government has also approached centre for intervention for resolution of water crisis. It has also approached Haryana government to supply water to Sonia Vihar treatment plant.<br/> Our correspondent reports that the water supply has affected mostly South and East Delhi following non-functioning of to water treatment plants in Sonia Vihar and Bhagirathi.<br/> These two plants get water supply from upper Ganga Canal in Uttar Pradesh. Almost 40 per cent of Delhi population is affected by the disruption in water supply. Delhi Jal Board has pressed into service one thousand one hundred tankers to provide water to people in the affected areas. <br/>They have also decided water rationing under which water will be diverted from the West and North Delhi to the affected areas.
