After a dominating show in the South Asian Games, a 17-strong Indian athletics team today left for the Asian Indoor Championships in Doha starting February 19. The team comprises the likes of sprinter Dutee Chand and shot-putter Omprakash Kharana. The team for the Continental Indoor Championships, includes 9 men and 8 women athletes. Led by Asian champion in long jump Mayookha Johny, the reigning champion in the men's shot put Omprakash Kharana, and the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games record-holder in high jump Tejaswin Shankar, the Indian team will be participating in a total of 12 events at the Aspire Academy Sports complex. India won just one gold medal from four participants in the previous edition which was held in Hangzhou, China. The Athletics Federation of India President Adille J. Sumariwalla, said that the 7th Asian Indoor Championship is an important competition for the Indian team to qualify for the Rio Olympics.
