In Maharshtra, a total bandh was observed in Dharmabad town of Nanded district today where former Andhra Pradesh chief minister and TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu spent the night after he was held by the Maharashtra Police for violating prohibitory orders.

The Police said Naidu, arrested along with five MPs and seven MLAs of his party when they tried to reach Babhli project in Maharashtra on Friday, may be produced before a local court today. Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil said Naidu refused to take bail.

The bandh call was given by the 'Babhli Bachao Kriti Samiti' to protest Naidu's what it called the adamant stance over Babhli barrage.

Shops remained closed and roads in this tehsil town, 12 km from Andhra border, wore a deserted look. The only presence was that of the around 1000 policemen who have been deployed to ensure peace during Naidu's visit.

Naidu had demanded that the administration should permit him to see the present situation at the project site.
