Directors General of Military Operations-DGMOs-of India and Pakistan, are meeting after 14 years, at Wagah in Pakistan today, to discuss various matters including the mechanism for reducing tension along the Line of Control-LoC. The Indian delegation would cross over to Pakistan from the Attari-Wagah Joint Check Post today. According to sources, DGMO Lt Gen Vinod Bhatia will hold the discussions with his Pakistani counterpart Maj. Gen. Amir Riaz.
The DGMOs of both the nations, who talk almost every week over a hotline, last met face-to-face after the Kargil war in 1999. The meeting comes three months after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif proposed this when they met at the UN session.
In another related development, a high-level meeting of border officials of India and Pakistan begins in Lahore, in Pakistan from today. The meeting will be held from Dec 24th to 28th. BSF Director General Subhash Joshi is leading the BSF delegation. The Pakistan side is being represented by Major General Rizwan Akhtar, Director General of the Pakistan Rangers-Sindh.
