Pakistan has named experienced all-rounder Shahid Afridi as the captain of the national team for the ICC cricket World Cup beginning on February 19. The Pakistan Cricket Board said in a statement today that Afridi would lead the team while Test captain and another front-runner for the job, Misbah-ul-Haq, would be his deputy in the mega-event. The World Cup is to be jointly co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.The PCB had announced their final 15-member World Cup squad last month but delayed naming the captain.Afridi led Pakistan to their first ODI series win since 2008, when they defeated New Zealand in the fifth one-day international in Hamilton yesterday.
