Africa's first high speed train service opens in Johannesburg

Africa's first high speed train service at a speed of 160 kilometers an hour opens this morning in Johannesburg. The three billion dollar Gautrain project has been dogged by a series of problems since work began nearly four years ago. With the World Cup starting on Friday more than three lakh visitors are expected in South Africa for the month-long football tournament. A taxi ride from the airport into Johannesburg can take an hour but from today arrivals will be able to make the same journey in less than 15 minutes. There will also be tight security on the trains, using closed circuit TV cameras and 400 security guards and police officers.<br/>
