Afghanistan's Parliamentary elections will be better than presidential elections last year: UN

United Nations has said that Afghanistan's Parliamentary elections on Saturday will not be perfect but will be better than presidential elections last year. UN envoy Staffan de Mistura told in a news conference in Kabul that security is the biggest concern before these elections but it should not be forgotten that Afghanistan is at the most critical period of the conflict. He said the biggest test will be the courage and determination of the Afghan people to show their willingness to participate in the future of their own country. The UN envoy said elections will prove to war-weary Afghans that ballots are better than bullets for resolving conflict. Taliban has announced to boycott the elections and attack the polling centers. Meanwhile, up to 30 militants have been killed in fighting ahead of the elections in separate incidents. A NATO statement said that up to 23 militants were killed in action in southern Helmand province and three in eastern Wardak province on Tuesday. An Afghan official said four Taliban were killed in southeastern Zabul province. There were no reports of casualties among joint NATO-Afghan forces.
